League play is back in full swing at the Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach, and there’s plenty on the horizon. Between a special US Open watch party mixer, a new Tournament Tough opportunity for high school players, and the momentum from a record-setting junior tournament last month, September has plenty to offer. Here’s a look at what’s been happening on our courts and what’s ahead.
Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights
Our local Space Coast League officially kicked off in August, and we’re proud to share that 15 teams now call RCCB home for Space Coast and USTA League play. That’s a testament to the strength of our adult community and the great atmosphere our home teams have built together. Best of luck to all of our teams as the season gets underway!
On the junior side, August delivered a huge milestone as we hosted our first-ever L5 Junior Tournament, which was the biggest in club history. A huge thank you to every player, family, and volunteer who helped make it such a memorable weekend at RCCB.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for Saturday, September 12, when we’ll be hosting an adult social called “Open at The Club” from 9:00 AM to noon. Come enjoy some fun tennis while watching the Women’s Final at the US Open — great tennis, great company, and a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
We’re also looking for high school players to join our Tournament Tough clinic on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. It’s a great opportunity for competitive juniors to sharpen their match-play skills in a focused, high-energy environment. Spread the word to any high school players in the community who are looking to level up their game this fall.
Facility Update
If you haven’t yet, please help us welcome Cristina Engel, who has settled in nicely as our new front desk attendant. Stop by and say hello the next time you’re at the club!
Coaches Tip of the Month
Lobbing while returning serve is a great way to advance to the net. A well-placed return lob can catch your opponent off guard, especially against a strong server rushing forward, and it buys you the time you need to close in and take control of the point. Aim deep with plenty of height, and once the lob goes up, follow it in with purpose. You’d be surprised how many “defensive” lobs actually lead to easy volleys on the next ball.
