Around The Courts: Sectionals, Summer Camp, and Breakfast Wimbledon at the Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach

Welcome back Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach tennis players! June brought a packed month of drop-in play and a Summer Camp that’s been off to a great start, and July has plenty on deck, from a team heading to sectionals to a fun-filled Breakfast Wimbledon event. Here’s a look at what’s been happening on our courts and what’s ahead.

Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights

June was another strong month for adult drop-in play at RCCB. Our Saturday Drop in Doubles averaged more than 15 participants each week, a great sign of the momentum building across our adult community. Big congratulations also go to Katherine Hingle and her 18 and Over 3.0 team, who finished the season 8-1 and are heading to sectionals. Best of luck to the whole team as they take the next step!

Looking ahead on the adult side, we’re excited for our Breakfast Wimbledon event coming up in July, a fun morning of tennis and community to celebrate one of the most iconic weeks in the sport.

Our Summer Camp has been a huge success so far, averaging close to 20 kids each week and delivering a great mix of instruction and fun. There’s still time to sign up! July brings four more weeks of Junior Camp open to the public, running 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We’re also offering our Tournament Tough class from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, giving our competitive juniors a focused environment to sharpen their match play.

We also want to give a big shout out to Nick Velazquez, a former junior player at the club, who has advanced to join our coaching staff. It’s always a special moment to see one of our own come up through the program and return as a coach, and we can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make with our players.

Facility Update

We’re excited to welcome Cristina Engel to the RCCB team as our new morning front desk attendant. Please stop by and say hello the next time you’re in for a morning session, and help us give her a warm welcome to the club.

Coaches Tip of the Month

When hitting your approach shot in singles, aim down the line. When hitting your approach shot in doubles, aim cross court. Down the line in singles gives your opponent less angle to work with as you close the net, while cross court in doubles keeps the ball away from the net player and opens up the court for your team. Small strategic choices like these can make a big difference in how often you finish points at the net.
